ENGAGEMENT SESSION FAQ
What if we are awkward in front of the camera?
Good news: everyone feels awkward in front of a camera until they don't. It usually takes about ten minutes and then something shifts. My job is to make that shift happen as fast as possible, which is actually one of the reasons the engagement session exists in the first place. By the time your wedding day comes around we will have already done this together once and you will know exactly what to expect from me.
I don't do stiff poses. I give you things to do rather than ways to stand. Walk toward me. Whisper something in their ear. Make them laugh. React to that. The best photos come out of real interactions, not perfect positioning, and I am very good at finding the real interaction hiding inside the awkward moment.
If you have lived your whole life thinking that you are not photogenic, I would genuinely love the chance to prove that wrong.
What should we wear for our engagement session?
Wear something that actually feels like you. That is genuinely the most important thing. If you never wear flowy dresses and flower crowns in real life, don't wear them for photos just because you think that's what engagement sessions look like. I want to photograph the people you actually are, not a Pinterest version of you.
A few practical things worth knowing: coordinate without matching, meaning pick a color palette that works together rather than wearing identical outfits. Avoid large logos or busy patterns that date quickly or distract from your faces. Layers, textures, and interesting fabrics photograph beautifully. And if you are planning to change outfits during the session, two looks is plenty.
Most importantly, wear something you feel good in. Confidence reads on camera every single time, and nothing photographs better than someone who is comfortable in their own skin.
When should we plan our engagement session?
If you are planning to use your images for save the dates, invitations, or wedding decor, shoot at least a month before you need to place any orders. Galleries turn around in one to two weeks but you want breathing room for printing and shipping.
Most of my weekends are reserved for weddings, so engagement sessions typically happen on weekdays. Plan for about two hours before sunset for the best light.
If you are in Florida and thinking about a summer session, let's talk. June through September is genuinely brutal out here. We are dealing with heat indexes that will melt your makeup, afternoon thunderstorms that appear out of nowhere, and humidity that has opinions about hair. It is not impossible, but we will need to be strategic about timing, location, and how long we are actually outside. Fall through early spring is the sweet spot for Central Florida sessions and if you have any flexibility at all I will absolutely steer you in that direction.
How long does it take to get our engagement photos?
Galleries are generally delivered between 1-2 weeks after the session date, depending on the season.
How do we choose the location for our engagement photos?
Start with what feels like you. Is there a place that means something to your relationship? Where you had your first date, where you got engaged, a park you walk through every weekend, a bookshop you both love? Meaningful locations make for meaningful photos, and I can make almost anywhere beautiful.
The main thing I want is for you to feel comfortable. If crowds make you anxious, skip the busy downtown square. If you want dramatic architecture and moody light, let's find a cemetery, a cathedral, a library with good bones. If you want golden fields and open sky, Central Florida has that too. The backdrop should serve you, not the other way around.
A few practical things to sort out before you commit to a location: check whether permits are required, whether entry fees apply, and whether pets or props are allowed if you plan to bring them. Some of Florida's most beautiful spots require advance permission and it is always better to find that out before the session than the morning of.
If you are completely stumped on location I am happy to help you brainstorm. I know this area well and I have shot in a lot of its hidden corners.
What if we want something extra for our engagement session?
Yes, please. Bring the smoke bombs, the vintage car, the candles, the stack of your favorite books, the picnic blanket, the moody florals. All of it is welcome and honestly I live for a session with a vision behind it.
What I don't provide are props or supplies, so anything you want to incorporate is yours to source and bring along. If you are bringing a pet, please bring a handler too. Someone whose only job is keeping your fur baby happy, hydrated, and out of the shot until exactly the right moment.
If you need help figuring out vendors or locations for a more styled setup, check out my preferred vendor list for some great local options. You will be responsible for booking any venues, planners, or additional vendors needed, but I am always happy to point you in the right direction.
The more you bring yourself to the session the better it gets. That is not a challenge, but it kind of is.
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ
How far in advance should I book my wedding photographer?
Most couples book their wedding photographer six to twelve months in advance, and if you are planning a fall wedding in Central Florida or getting married around a major holiday, you will want to reach out even earlier. October and November in particular fill up fast because the weather finally becomes tolerable and every couple in Florida is trying to get married outside at the same time. If you have a date in mind, reach out as soon as possible even if you are still early in the planning process. A quick inquiry costs nothing and locks nothing in.
What photography package do most couples choose?
Most couples land on our eight hour package at $4,795, which includes two photographers.
Here is everything included:
- Up to eight hours of wedding coverage with two photographers
- Complimentary one hour engagement session
- Sneak peeks delivered within two weeks of your wedding
- Private engagement session gallery with professional print shop access for twelve months
- Private wedding gallery with professional print shop access for twelve months
- Full resolution downloads of all post-processed engagement and wedding images
- Personal printing rights included on everything
Eight hours covers most wedding days comfortably from getting ready through the first dances and beyond, and having a second photographer means nothing gets missed while I am with you.
How much are travel expenses?
Travel over 50 miles from DeLand, FL is billed at .70/mile roundtrip. Any travel over 2 hours away requires a one-night hotel stay in addition to mileage. Any travel over 6 hours away requires airfare and two night hotel stay. Tolls and Parking will be billed after the wedding date, and receipts supplied if needed.
Are you insured and do you have backups?
Yes. I carry full professional liability insurance. If your venue requires a certificate of insurance I am happy to provide one. Just let me know in advance.
I shoot with multiple camera bodies, carry backup lenses, extra batteries, and extra memory cards. Equipment failure on a wedding day is not something I am willing to leave to chance. Not only that but I require my second photographer to do the same.
Will you be the photographer on my wedding day?
Yes. Always. When you book DellaMorte Photography you are booking me, Daniella. I am the one who answers your emails, takes your calls, photographs your engagement session, and shows up on your wedding day. There are no associates, no secondhand surprises. You will know exactly who is walking through that venue door.
What happens if you get sick or have an emergency on my wedding day?
Most of my wedding packages already include a second photographer who works alongside me regularly, knows my prompts, my poses, and how I run a wedding day from start to finish. If something unexpected happened to me, you would already have someone there who operates exactly the way I do.
Beyond that, as a board member of both PPCF locally and FPP statewide, I have networks in the professional photography community here in Florida that I can call on if I ever needed backup. In twenty years it has never come to that, but I believe you deserve to know the answer before you book.
What is DellaMorte's Photography style?
My style is lifestyle photography, which means it lives somewhere between fully posed and fully candid. I give you suggestions rather than stiff directions. I put you in a spot that has great light, make sure the background is clean and the details are right, and then I let you actually be yourselves in that space. The result looks natural because it is natural. You are not frozen in a pose, you are just existing somewhere beautiful with the people you love while I pay attention.
My editing style is true to life and always warm. Sometimes moody, never cold, never over-filtered, never so heavily processed that you stop looking like yourself. I want your images to look like your wedding day actually looked, just with better light and someone paying attention to the right moment.
I describe my overall aesthetic as gothic-whimsical: romantic, timeless, and atmospheric. My goal is always to capture the real essence of your day, the feeling in the room, the look between the two of you, the moment that happened when nobody was watching. Those are the images you will still be looking at in thirty years.
Do you charge extra if my wedding runs overtime?
Additional coverage beyond your package hours is available at $450 per hour.
How many photos will I receive from my wedding?
There is no set number because every wedding is different. A four-hour intimate wedding with no wedding party will deliver fewer images than a ten-hour celebration with a huge wedding party.
What I can promise is that you will receive every image that tells your story well, post-processed, and delivered in high resolution. While I do not pad galleries with endless duplicates, I do not withhold images arbitrarily. You will get everything that matters. If I had to put a number to it, I would say the average is 100 images per hour of photography.
Can I have the raw files?
The short answer is no, and here is why that is actually in your best interest. RAW files are unedited, unprocessed images that require specialized software to open and are not something most people have the ability to view or use. They are also not finished work. What I deliver to you is the finished product, fully edited and ready to print, share, and keep forever.
Beyond the technical side, delivering RAW files transfers copyright and I do not do that. My editing style is part of what you are hiring me for and it is not something I separate from the images themselves.
On that note: I also do not allow clients to edit or filter the delivered images. If you are planning to run your wedding photos through a preset or app before posting them, we should probably talk before you book. My editing is warm, true to life, and consistent across your entire gallery. If that style resonates with you, we are going to be a great fit. If it does not, I would genuinely rather you find someone whose work you love than hire me and be disappointed. There are no hard feelings in finding your right person.
Does dellamorte use AI?
Yes, and I want to be transparent about how.
AI is a tool I use to help streamline the business side of what I do, things like workflow and organization. It helps me run a more efficient small business so that I can spend more of my time and energy on the actual work of photographing and post-processing your images.
It also assists me in several parts of my creative workflow. I use it to cull images, which means it removes the obvious technical failures: the blinks, the blurry shots, the accidental photos of the ground. It helps sort and organize so that my selection process is faster and more efficient. I also use AI to apply my own custom preset across the gallery as a starting point, which means when I sit down to post-process your images I am not opening raw files from scratch. I am starting further into the process with a foundation I designed, and then doing the real work from there.
What AI does not do is make creative decisions. It does not choose which images tell your story. It does not decide what gets delivered and what gets left out. It does not replace the human eye behind the camera or the human hands doing the actual post-processing. Every image in your final gallery has been individually reviewed and post-processed by me.
I also offer AI skin retouching as a paid upgrade for couples who want that additional level of finish on their images. It is entirely optional.
I think of AI the same way I think about any other tool that makes a skilled person more efficient. It speeds up the parts of the process that do not require artistry so that I can spend more time and energy on the parts that do. The art is still human. It is just a more efficient human.
Why have a first look?
It gives you a calm, private moment together before the chaos of the day takes over, calms nerves, and gives us time for portraits while you are fresh. It also protects us from losing the light in fall and winter. Most importantly, the more we knock out before the ceremony, the sooner you get to actually enjoy your guests.
You can also do a first look with your wedding party, a parent, a grandparent, or your dog. Each one takes time so we will factor them into your timeline conversation.
You do not have to do it. But if you are on the fence, I will always gently advocate for it.
How do I create a family photo list?
Be specific. Write out every grouping by first name so we are calling names on the day, not trying to figure out if someone is included. Assume two to three minutes per grouping when planning your timeline.
Make sure every family member on your list knows in advance that they are needed for photos immediately after the ceremony. Do not assume they will figure it out on the day.
Can you just Photoshop that out?
Yes, but the honest answer is that the best retouching is prevention. That is why I always check the background before putting you in a spot, move distracting elements when I can, and flag things before I press the shutter rather than after. Taking a few extra seconds to get the shot right costs nothing. Fixing it in post-processing costs time, and time costs money.
So before every shot: wallet out of your pocket, sunglasses off, phone put away, drinks out of the frame. It takes five seconds and saves everyone a lot of hassle later. Airbrushing, item removal, and background editing are always available to purchase if needed. We have you covered either way.
What is the deposit, and do you offer payment plans?
A 33% retainer is required at booking to secure your date. The remaining balance is due no later than thirty days before your wedding. Typically, I split it into 3 payments, but we can split it further if needed. Payment can be made by ACH, cash, personal check, Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, or credit card.
The retainer and all payments made toward your package are non-refundable under any circumstances. This is standard practice in the wedding industry because booking your date takes it off the market for everyone else, and that time and date cannot be recovered if you cancel. All funds are fully transferable to other photography sessions.
Can I send you my Pinterest board?
Please do. Pinterest is a great tool for gathering visual inspiration, and it helps me get a feel for your color palette, vibe, and general aesthetic before your wedding day. Send it over, and I will absolutely look through it.
That said, here is the honest conversation about how I use it. Pinterest is not a shot list. Styled shoots do not reflect real wedding timelines, and some poses simply are not possible based on your location, timeline, or weather. If you go into your wedding day expecting a specific recreation of someone else's image, we are both going to be frustrated.
Instead of "I want this exact photo," try "I love this type of lighting" or "this veil shot really speaks to me." That kind of direction gives me something genuinely useful to work with. I need to understand what you love, and I also need room to do what I do best: document your day, not recreate someone else's.
Your Pinterest board helps me understand the feeling you are after. Then I go find that feeling in your actual wedding day.
